Artistic Director of the Creative Institute Trenčín

Creative Institute Trenčín is a newly-formed organisation that is responsible for the implementation of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026. In close collaboration with stakeholders in the private, public and third sector we focus on the development of culture and creative industries in the city and Europe, as well as fulfilling the goals of Trenčín 2026. Our team is looking for an experienced, ambitious and internationally-connected artistic director to lead the programme and curatorial team, and oversee the artistic vision and program strategies.

Requirements:

 

  • At least five years’ experience in artistic direction of an institution/organisation/company in the cultural/creative sector

  • At least three-years’ experience leading large teams (systemic leadership, handling stress situations, etc.)

  • Second degree education, preferably in culture/art or a related field 

  • Experience with and knowledge of ECoC projects

  • Experience working with large budgets and strict deadlines

  • Highly-developed ability to work independently, proactively and systematically 

  • Excellent communication in both Slovak and English languages 

  • Experience in creating successful project proposals, grant applications, and business plans 

  • Great personal and communication skills

  • Familiarity with the contemporary Slovak cultural/ artistic environment 

  • Familiarity with the international cultural scene and European cultural networks

  • Existing network of contacts in culture/ creative industries in Slovakia and Europe

  • Integrity

  • Full legal capacity

 

Preferred:

  • Involvement in the Trenčín 2026 bidding process is an advantage

 

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • General management of the CIT (together with the CIT director) with a special focus on the programme department

  • Responsibility for the high quality artistic direction of the Creative Institute Trenčín as based on the winning Trenčín 2026 project and ECoC goals

  • Manage and oversee implementation of programmes proposed in the winning Trenčín 2026 bid book 

  • Lead the artistic vision for CIT programmes and activities

  • Manage a team of curators, programme researchers, and coordinators, and collaborate closely with all CIT departments 

  • Collaborate closely with the fundraising manager and CIT director on gaining new resources and securing the long-term sustainability of the organisation and its activities

  • Manage the cash flow of the programme department (together with the financial manager and CIT director)

  • Lead the development of strategic partnerships with programme partners (cultural institutions, organisations, creative private sector, NGOs, other European cities, etc.) and European networks

  • Collaborate with the board of trustees of CIT

  • Establish and maintain effective working processes between CIT and the City and Region of Trenčín, the Ministry of Culture, as well as other key institutions and stakeholders

  • Lead the organisational structure and hiring in the programme department

  • Represent the organisation at conferences, events, media and in public

 

Salary:

  • Basic salary component: EUR 2,300 gross per month

  • Structured implementation proposal for Trenčín 2026 in PDF format (max. 3 A4 pages): the proposal must be based on the Trenčín 2026 winning bid book and should primarily demonstrate an understanding of the European Capital of Culture process and knowledge of the winning project.

  • Completed forms required to request an extract from the criminal record

  • Consent to the processing of personal data if candidates want to be included in the database for the purposes of potential later Slovakia with a job offer

  • Affidavit of legal capacity 

  • Affidavit on the veracity of the data 

  • Affidavit of Integrity

The selection procedure will take place in the form of personal calls. Personal interviews will take place on March 4, 2022 in the morning in Trenčín, and the candidates will meet the conditions of the notification by a more precise time and place.
